Taking over the family business has been an interesting challenge, particularly in time of the deepest recession Jersey has ever had to face. The major ongoing process has been the development of a unique selling point for the business. I was lucky enough to inherit good customer will and an exemplary record with suppliers.
The business is located in the equivalent of 'the Old Quarter', Jersey's Central Market and with that in mind we have maintained original features such as hand written receipts to maintain the tradition that would be expected of a business in the Old Quarter and the heritage of Jersey.
Customer service is of course a priority as we are in comeptition with not only other jewellers but also the internet. We recently completed our shop redesign which opened up additional areas to the customers that had previously been utilised by the back office. We hope the shop now feels less claustrophobic.
That is not to say that computers have not been introduced and our nascent but flourishing internet retail division. Where once Jersey had a flourishing tourism industry which bought customers to us we how through the wonders of the web take our service to people overseas.
